Dr Nick Brasher, Registered Osteopath
B.App.Sc.(Clin,Sc.); B.Osteo. Sc
Nick Brasher joined the team at HOC after graduating from the Osteopathic course at RMIT, Bundoora, in 2003.
Nick grew up in Melbourne's eastern suburbs and attended De La Salle College, Malvern. After completing year 12, Nick began the five year, double-degree Osteopathic course. After three years, he took advantage of the long university break and travelled to Colorado, USA, to work as a ski instructor for five months, before coming home to complete his studies. Outside of work, Nick's interests include spending time with his family, travel and staying active.
Involvement in Sport
Nick has always maintained a strong interest in sport. He is a former state level swimmer and continues to enjoy all sports, particularly tennis and skiing, as well as playing football for the De La Salle Old Collegians in the V.A.F.A. His involvement at the club has also allowed him to apply his Osteopathic knowledge in treating and aiding in the recovery of injured players.
It was Nick's interest in sport that lead to his career as an Osteopath. After years of gruelling training as a swimmer, Nick developed a chronic overuse injury in his shoulder. His coach at the time recommended Osteopathic treatment and, in time, he was able to return to competitive swimming once again. It was here that Nick's passion for the profession began.
Rehabilitation
Through various injuries of his own, Nick is particularly interested in the correct rehabilitation and management of patients. Swift and appropriate management following an injury or surgery is imperative in preventing the progression of pain or the development of a chronic condition. Nick is regularly updating his knowledge of the latest strategies in this area. Whether you are a Tuesday night tennis star or an elite athlete, Nick takes a personalised approach to your care to get you back in action as soon as possible.
Osteopathy and the Workplace
Back pain is the most common cause of absenteeism in the workplace. There are many steps you can take to protect your body from undue stress and tension whilst at work. Headaches, neck and back pain are common complaints that may be caused by poor posture. Nick can advise you on how to alter your workspace in order to reduce the strain being placed upon your body and the possibility of injury.
